Last week was filled with lovely things.

First of all, I was intrigued by windows. Like in picture 3, it’s a window in the port of Ghent, It felt so surreal to look into a window, and see such a wondeful view.

Next to that I’m working with different textile-companies to make some of my designs. Yesterday I was making yarns, that’s so much fun ! I also did some industrial weaving and lasercutting. The pictures you see are still ‘work in progress’, so they need some finishing touches. But the 27th of June will be the opening of the exhibition, and that will be the first moment that my work will showed to the public. Feel free to come. More information about it later.

Today i’ll be present at ‘TOUR DE NORD’, it’s a streetfestival in Antwerp 2060 neighborhood. I’ll spread my words for strangers up there, and hope I can make someone happy with the words.

Words for strangers.

A little while ago I asked who of you wanted to spread my notes in their cities. Well, all my notes are sold out. More then 50, i’m still surprised about that.

So I start preparing it more then a month ago. Together with some friends I wrote the first notes (100 and a bit), and later I wrote +- 250 myself. It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed it. I also searched beautiful pictures for this project, they fit well to the notes. I like them a lot.
In every envelope is a little surprise-package called ‘the museum at your home’, and it’s a collaboration between me and ‘Het huis van Alijn’. It took me a lot of hours of searching, printing and cutting. But I show you all the surprises later, because I want it to be still a surprise for the receivers.

On monday all the letters fly to your homes.
I look forward to see you spreading the notes. Don’t forget to take pictures of them, please.

About my health, I was still sick last week, it didn’t want to go away. But since yesterday I start to feel better and better. So next week I should be healthy again.

Words for strangers. (preparation)

A beautiful cold saturday in La Chascona, with friends, penpalls and lovely strangers. They all came from different corners in the country to help me with prepare my “words for strangers”-project.

We all were drawing and writing beautiful sentences on little cards, to surprise other people, to make them feel special. When I was watching them around me I felt so emotional, and I couldn’t believe all these magical persons came to the coffeebar to help me prepare the project. There were some of them that I never had seen before, some of them I was writing with for a while, some of them where amazing friends. It’s so lovely to see how little notes can bring people closer to eachother.

While we were writing I was drinking a coffee. And … the beautiful spoon with the bird was on my plate again. I was extatic, and so happy. One of my friends asked Dieter (the bartender) if the spoon was for sale. But he surprised me, and said that I could take it with me. Thanks a million for the beautiful spoon.

A request

On Thursday the exhibition about the letters will start. And that’s the reason of preparing the ‘words for strangers’. During the time of the exhibition I want to spread these notes in Ghent, but also around the world. But I need your help. Would love to see my notes in different countries, on different places, so I can make more people happy with a little note.

Do you want to join, and help me ? Well, this is my idea. Send me your address in an e-mail (herminevandijck@hotmail.com), and then I’ll send you a little package with a few notes-for-strangers. I would be so happy if you can spread them in your city, and take a picture of them. It would be lovely if you could send the pictures back to me so we can exhibit them somewhere. And maybe maybe, one day, I’ll make a little book of them.

PARIS EDITION

In the beginning it was very hard to find some bicycles in the center of Paris. It looked like everyone takes the car, the metro or the motorbike. So I was a bit “sad” that I couldn’t work out my words-for-strangers-project in Paris. But this afternoon we came into an area with bikes, and I was happy. The result.

Soon more Paris-adventures. I really had a lovely time with my friends, and we found a few lovely adresses that I really want to share with you all. See you this weekend !

The first snow, the perfect moment to hang little notes on peoples bikes. I give them with all the love of my heart. I still hope that one day someone will react on the little note that they found on their bikes. Maybe one day … : – )

Words for strangers. (2)

START

Two days ago I give my words to strangers for the first time , in Antwerp, by hanging little notes on their bikes. It was so exciting, and I became so happy of doing that. Just by giving little words to someone unknown. Words that sometimes just mean nothing, words that can be a part of a long long story. But I hope people make their own story with this little sentences.
There was just one ‘sad’ thing, it started to rain, and I think the notes haven’t survive all that water. Soon, when it stop raining I continue my words-spread.

A good day, lessons, weaving time, crocheting, making a moodbord, working on a new project, looking in the new damn-magazine, …. .

My new little project is calling “words for strangers” (it’s inspired by a hanger I once get from a friend. There was a poem on it, and the autor put his poems on bicycles.), I will write little wishes and little parts of stories on tiny papers, and put it on peoples bikes. Just words for strangers.
