2 weeks.

Just 2 weeks, and then I’ll have to do my end-presentation about my textile designs. I’m so excited, and a little nervous at the same time, because I worked for 2 years on this project. So I hope the textile-experts will understand my story.

We also exhibit our work, the openings event is on the 27th of June, at De Bijloke in Ghent (More information). And it runs till the 1th of July. You are all welcome !

Blanket.

I’m making a collection of woven blankets. I really love to play with colours and very soft yarns. At the moment I made 5 big pieces, but I still need to do the last finishing touches. So exciting.

On saturday Eefje will take beautiful pictures of my work, at Robbert’s place. I’m a little nervous, but I’m convinced that it will be great. Look forward to saturday. But it also mean that I have a deadline to catch, so this week will be all about early mornings and late-night-atelier-time.

Last week was filled with lovely things.

First of all, I was intrigued by windows. Like in picture 3, it’s a window in the port of Ghent, It felt so surreal to look into a window, and see such a wondeful view.

Next to that I’m working with different textile-companies to make some of my designs. Yesterday I was making yarns, that’s so much fun ! I also did some industrial weaving and lasercutting. The pictures you see are still ‘work in progress’, so they need some finishing touches. But the 27th of June will be the opening of the exhibition, and that will be the first moment that my work will showed to the public. Feel free to come. More information about it later.

Today i’ll be present at ‘TOUR DE NORD’, it’s a streetfestival in Antwerp 2060 neighborhood. I’ll spread my words for strangers up there, and hope I can make someone happy with the words.

Working, working, working, … with sometimes a nice coffeebreak. Spring is in the air, my plant start to get flowers. And that make me so happy. I also have 3 new baby pilea, from my neighbour. Hope they will trasform into big plants.

And some lovely news, in October I’ll move to paris for 5 months to do an internship. Do someone knows a place where I can live ? or do you know someone who has room for free in his/her house ?

Easter.

Wish you all a happy Easter. I hope you all enjoy your day.

Today I ate a lot of chocolate eggs, the one on the pictures are really delicious. While I’m having a chocolate-overdose I’m making samples with my tufting tool, and it’s working better than I even dare to dream of. So I’m very happy !!

Weaving is the best therapy. (2)

This week I had some problems with my warp, so it took me a long time to fix it. Yesterday I could start weaving, it gives me so much energy and ideas about making new things. I think it’s time to buy a new loom. So excited !! I’m going to try to make bags with these woven pieces. Still have to do some research about how I can do it. But I think it might be beautiful.

Soon I have a surprise for you, something I’m dreaming of for a long time, but I’ll keep it a secret. Maybe next week I’ll tell you more about it.

Spring.

Today is the first day of spring. I’m so happy about that. This morning someone on the radio told about why the spring started today, an not on the 21th. It’s because the sun is at the same place as the equator. That’s something I didn’t knew. It’s a beautiful day, and it will be better the next few days, I think I will be able to wear my new summer shoes during the weekend. Yes !

I made a little workarea at school, and I’m so glad I did that. It’s next to a big window with views on a beautiful garden. The next months I will spend a lot of time over there. But I doesn’t mind. I can leave all my working materials at my desk, and making moodboards on the walls.

I’m making a work with my kaleidoscoop, and it works !

Plush.

I’m happy to show you a first peek into my new textile works. (I made the textiles samples a while ago, but I didn’t dare to show them yet. Because I’m so unsure about everything. But maybe it’s time to ask what you think of it.) “Plush” is my newest fascination, and I try to get it into my work as much as possible. The hanging threads are so charming, to me, and they acting always like they want to.

I always been fascinated by hand-made-textiles, and I think it’s so sad that there isn’t so much space for handcraft inside the textile-industry. That’s something I’m worried about. It’s impossible to go ‘back to basic’ totally, and do everything by hand. (Except when you just want to do it for fun, or to relax).

My work is a statement. I try to cross the borders between handycraft, and the industry. Between me and a machine. It’s about searching a way to use a machine, but to add something of myself to it. Without my hands the fabric will never exist. Like the machine is my second hand. It’s difficult to describe, but I want to use the fastness of a machine to transform it in a contemporary way of handcraft. How can I fuse those two opposites ? That’s what my research is about.

It’s for all of us, who want to go back to a pure and honest piece of fabric, unique and different. For you, and for me.
