Dowry (2).

06/10/2012

I’m working on new pieces for my dowry. Crocheted cushions. I started this project almost a year ago, but there was something about the technique that I didn’t understand. About 3 months ago I started trying again, and it finally works ! In the pictures I only can show you the cushions that I started here in Paris. But at my home in Belgium I have others who are already finished. Like this one.

For the cushions I’m very inspired by the best cushion-maker-of-the world, Renilde from at-swim-two-birds. She uses the same crochet technique. I’m saving money to buy one of her beautiful creations, because they are so beautiful. Real treasures.

Thank you all for your sweet messages about my stay in Paris. It’s going better (although today I feel a bit sick), and I start to understand what people say to me. Oh, and I look forward to meet some of you here in Paris.

Dowry.

07/08/2012

Last 2 days I was at a friends home, on the countryside. We enjoyed walking, watching movies, baking cakes, preparing dinner and do some crocheting. We had a nice time.

I’m working on my own Dowry. I’m always so impressed by the story that girls start to work on their dowry when they are very young. They learn how to do embroideries, crocheting, knittings, … so they can make a beautiful treasure for when they are going to marry. I even heard that ‘how better, and how more refined, the embroideries are, how better wife you might be. ‘
Don’t worry, I’m not going to marry, first have to find a man who I might love. But I think it’s a beautiful idea to make a box filled with handmade blankets, rugs, …. to use as a couple. A box of love, handmade. It’s also a nice gift, and reminder, for my children (if I might have some). A family hairloom.

I started with my first item for the dowry, a white crocheted blanket.

The pictures are taken at my friends home.

Cushion.

10/02/2012

When I was busy with making potholders, I was thinking about making cushions for my chair. The yellow one is the first cushion, but I’m not completely happy about the colours. But number two is perfect to me. The light blue with sparkles are my all-time-favourite, so perfect for making a cusion with. It still need a cotton back, and maybe some soft filling, and then they will be ready to use. Another new free-time-spending-addiction is born ?

Have a a lovely weekend.

Thank you all for your support on my last post. I decided to continue, because that’s what my heart tells me to.

I took the last picture at Le Jardin Bohémien, a lovely place in Ghent.

New addiction.

29/01/2012

Oh, yes, here we go again. I have a new addiction.

I stayed for dinner at a friends place, and I was attracted to her beautiful flower-shaped-potholders. They were made by a granny of one of her friends. And that inspired me. So I started making one. This is the result.

At the moment I’m busy with 3 other potholders, the same pattern but different colours. And I love it so much. It makes me want to make more and more of them, in different patterns and different colours. And yes, I admid that I’m also very inspired by the best-potholder-maker-of-the-world, Renilde.

I show you the others soon. Enjoy your sunday !

Finally.

15/01/2012

First of all I want to thank you all for your support and lovely words on my previous post.

The doctor finally found the reason of my illness, some kind of rare bacteria in my stomach. So at the moment I’m taking some medicines, hopefully they make me healthy soon.

The only thing that I could do last week, was step from the couch into my bed, and watch a few movies. I felt so locked up. Yesterday I finally was able to make a little walk, and I even drunk a coffee (that made me feel sick again afterwards …). So hopefully in a few days I will be the good-old-Hermine again, and do some weaving, go to school, ride my bike, finish the word-for-strangers-project, and feel alive again. Yes.

Have a good start of the week.

Doily.

02/01/2012

New years evening was great, just like I wanted it to be. Cosy at home, with my family. Watch the firework in the garden, and do some crocheting in front of the fireplace. Perfect. I want to show you the growing proces of this doily, because I love to see how it gets bigger and bigger. I’m half-way, and I’m so curious how it would look like in a few days.

Hope you all had a wonderful start.

Goodbye…

2011.

Little snippets of my last days of 2011. Lovely days with my friends, walking, and drinking coffee’s. Lovely to come home and find some letters in my mailbox, they make me feel so happy. Did some weaving, 3 meters, for a new work (more about it in the new year). oh, and the ‘words-for-strangers’ are almost ready to be send. Hopefully next week they can start their journey to your homes. So sorry for the ones who still want to join, because all my notes already have a new owner.

I hope 2012 will bring you all love, luck, new vibes, and a lot of creativity. Hopefully it will be a year full of letters, blogging, weaving, and new coffee-dates with lovely strangers.

Happy 2012.

Inside beauty.

11/11/2011

Yesterday morning I decided to make a little bike-tour in the morning, to relax. It felt so great to feel the cold on my skin, and see the beautiful autumn sun show his first shines. Perfect way to de-stress.
I thought it was a good idea to go to the thriftstore. It felt like it didn’t was my lucky day, but then suddenly I opened (by accident) a big dirty cover of a map, and I was speachless about what was in it. A full research of someone who studied lace. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I took it home with me, I’m so happy with it. Maybe I’ll make a new map of all the information, so it will become a beautiful book with lace and drawings. I don’t think making lace is something for me, just like how it looks, and love the drawings they make before they start making it.

I also found some beautiful handkerchiefs with little embroidered flowers en lace. Very pretty and fragile.

Happy weekend.

Winter mood.

09/11/2011

My crochetwork is almost finished. I’m always so excited, because then I can start a new one. The next doily will be a light blue, from the thread I once got as a present from Inge. It’s time to use this beautiful bobbin.

Last weekend I was talking with the lady that lives next to me about my inside garden. She was surprised and showed me her little home which was filled with plants. She gave me a few cuts from her plants, and also the plant which you can see on the picture. I’m so so happy with her gifts. Does someone know what the name of this plant is ? It has silky , round leaves.

See you this weekend, dear friends.

Coffee & crochet.

05/11/2011

Last week I feel so stressy, I don’t know why, just have this annoying feeling all the time. Two things that calm me down during this periode are walking, and drinking a coffee while I work on a crochet work. When I do that I can clear my mind for a little while.

Today the woman of my favourite coffeebar gave me this spoon with the bird. I was so happy when I saw the little spoon, because I love birds so much. It even looked like it was predestinated.

Does someone have some tips about what I can do against this stressy-feeling ?

(it looks like I have a favourite plant these days. hihi)

Happy weekend to you all !
